X-rays and digital imaging are two important tools because they allow us to see what’s going on in the mouth beyond what is visible with the human eye. With digital x-rays and intra oral cameras, we are able to continue to use these tools without exposing patients to unnecessary radiation.
Conventional x-rays require patients to bite down on a film strip, while technician is taking the images to be printed on film. With digital x-rays, we use a small sensor in the mouth that captures high-res images of the mouth with minimal exposure to radiation. The digital images are easily enlarged and enhanced on the computer screen to allow for accurate review and diagnosis.
Your dentist needs to be able to effectively see inside your mouth in order to provide any dental services, from routine exams to complex restorations. Intraoral cameras make this task much easier. Rather than having to use the tiny, old-fashioned dental mirror, the dentist uses a small camera (about the size of a pen) to see around each tooth. The camera can record these images and transmit them digitally so that they can be reviewed later and shared as needed.
